The revelation of Rossi’s true identity came to light when he was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at a hospital in Glasgow in December 2021. Hospital staff recognised his tattoos, which had been circulated by Interpol, leading to his arrest. Despite a two-year legal battle where he maintained his alias, Rossi’s extradition to the US was eventually approved in September 2023, and he was flown back to America in January.
During a recent court hearing, Rossi claimed that he fled the US after being threatened by elected officials in Rhode Island; however, he declined to identify the individuals he alleges made these threats. As a result, his request for bail was denied as the judge deemed there was a significant risk of him attempting to flee if granted bail.
One of the rape allegations against Rossi dates back to 2008, involving a 26-year-old woman in Salt Lake County, Utah. Furthermore, it was disclosed in August that he faces a second rape charge after DNA matching his was found on another alleged victim. Not guilty pleas were entered by his lawyer ahead of an upcoming hearing in two weeks.
