The ball, which marks Ohtani’s unprecedented achievement of being the first player to hit 50 homers and steal 50 bases in a single season, has drawn significant attention not just for its sporting significance but also due to the legal dispute surrounding its ownership.
The controversy unfolded when Christian Zacek left Miami’s LoanDepot Park with the prized ball, claiming possession after a scramble in the left-field stands. The current leading bid for Ohtani’s historic ball stands at $1.8 million, with the final price expected to reach nearly $2.2 million after auction fees are factored in.
