Young musicians in Coatbridge are shaping the future of music at Main Street Studios. This recording facility owned by Brian Imrie stands out by offering not only music lessons and rehearsal space but also a unique band programme for aspiring artists. Regardless of skill level, young individuals are encouraged to learn and grow under Brian’s guidance. Once they reach a certain proficiency, they are grouped with other young musicians to form bands.
Main Street Studios goes beyond just teaching music; they also organise live gigs at various venues, providing young bands and artists with the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences. Additionally, they run a choir for children aged five to 16. Brian Imrie shared, “We offer lessons in guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, piano, keyboards, and vocals. We also guide them on songwriting and production.”
With a focus on collaboration and performance, Main Street Studios aims to nurture the talent of local youth from Coatbridge and Airdrie. The studio’s band programme has already seen success with bands like Half Life, composed of students from Coatbridge schools, who performed at a recent showcase in Glasgow.
Brian Imrie, along with his dedicated team, has been involved in the music industry for over a decade, previously running Soundwave Studios. Now based in the heart of Coatbridge, Main Street Studios sees around 150 to 200 students each week, in addition to bands using their rehearsal rooms. Plans to venture back into recording music are on the horizon.
The studio’s upcoming showcase gig at Gartlea Community Centre will feature performances by several bands. Main Street Studios continues to be a hub for young musicians to hone their craft, build confidence, and showcase their talents to the local community.
