College student gave birth in her dorm, killed the newborn and went back to sleep, cops say

A college student reportedly gave birth in her dorm room, killed the newborn, and then went back to sleep, according to authorities. The shocking incident took place at the University of Tampa, where the child’s body was discovered in a trashcan.

The student, identified as Brianna Moore, aged 19, is facing charges including aggravated manslaughter of a child, child neglect with great bodily harm, failure to report death, and unlawful storage of human remains. Moore was arrested in Mississippi and is awaiting extradition to Hillsborough County, Florida.

Authorities were alerted when Moore’s roommates heard a baby crying and found blood in their dorm room on April 27. Despite denying her pregnancy and attributing the blood to her menstrual period, a subsequent investigation revealed a tragic sequence of events.

Following the discovery of a bloody towel in the trash can by Moore’s roommates the next day, authorities found a deceased baby girl wrapped in a towel. Moore admitted to giving birth in the dorm’s bathroom, holding the baby until it stopped crying. An autopsy later revealed that the child had multiple fractured ribs and hemorrhaging.

Reportedly, Moore cleaned the baby with water, felt for a heartbeat, assumed the baby had passed away, and then fell asleep for an hour. Upon waking up and finding no signs of life in the newborn, she wrapped the baby back in the towel and placed her in the trashcan before going back to sleep.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez expressed her sorrow, stating, “It breaks my heart to know that this baby girl could still be alive today if this woman had alerted authorities that she needed help.” The tragic incident has left the community in shock and disbelief, prompting a wave of concern and calls for support for struggling mothers.
