Eva Mendes has hinted that she may only consider returning to acting if it involves working alongside her husband, Ryan Gosling. The couple previously shared the screen in films such as ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ and ‘Lost River’.
Their on-screen chemistry translated into a real-life relationship after meeting on set in 2012. Mendes opened up about her hiatus from acting since 2014, expressing that she was never deeply passionate about the craft. Despite this, she acknowledged her positive experiences working with talented individuals in the industry.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Mendes shared her admiration for Gosling’s ability to bring out a different side of her as an actress. She reflected on feeling pigeonholed in certain roles throughout her career and implied that a project with Gosling involved would be a compelling reason for her return.
While Mendes remains uncertain about stepping back in front of the camera, she has kept creatively busy by writing a children’s book called ‘Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries’. The book aims to address and destigmatise anxiety in children, drawing from Mendes’ personal experiences.
The actress also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to focus on her two daughters, Esmerelda and Amada, during her time away from acting. She emphasised the importance of being present for her children and cherishing the moments spent with them.
Mendes’ journey into motherhood and her creative endeavours beyond acting exemplify her multifaceted talents and priorities in life. It remains to be seen whether a potential collaboration with Gosling could bring Mendes back to the big screen, but for now, her focus lies on family and personal projects.
