The father of a baby who tragically drowned in the English Channel has shared the heart-wrenching details of how his infant slipped from his hands after their dinghy burst during a perilous journey. The 40-day-old baby, Maryam Bahez, was travelling with her mother, two brothers, and father, Aras, from Kurdistan when their small boat ruptured, leaving them struggling to stay afloat.
Aras recounted the harrowing experience to Sky News, stating, “Our feet were in the water, we all told the [driver] to please turn around, but he did not listen to anyone.” He continued, “She went into the water, then others fell on me and then she slipped from my hand, and fell in the water the third time, and I lost her.” Despite the desperate situation, 65 individuals were rescued by the Coast Guard following the incident.
