A Turkish teenager dating a grandmother from Edinburgh, 16 years his senior, has spoken out about their unconventional relationship. Sefkan Güzel, 19, expressed his commitment to 35-year-old Rachel McIntyre, emphasising that age is irrelevant in matters of the heart. The couple first met during Sefkan’s two-month holiday in Turkey, where he works as a hotel waiter. Despite initial surprise at the age gap, Sefkan described their bond as more than just a summer fling, saying, “I love her so much and she is so beautiful, and that is all I care about.”
Rachel McIntyre initially hesitated upon learning Sefkan’s age, as he was the same age as her daughter, Bethany. However, she eventually came to appreciate his qualities, calling him kind, clever, gentle, funny, and a wonderful partner. Despite initial reservations from Bethany, she came around to accepting their relationship and now supports her mother’s happiness. Sefkan, humoured by the idea of becoming a stepdad and grandad at his age, expressed his affection for Bethany and her child, highlighting their harmonious family dynamic.
Following Rachel’s return to the UK, she and Sefkan have maintained a strong connection through regular video calls. During her visit to Turkey with her daughter Erika, Rachel shared moments of adventure and bonding with Sefkan, solidifying their relationship further. Despite receiving attention from other suitors, Rachel remains committed to Sefkan, whom she plans to visit in November with hopes of eventually relocating abroad together. Their story serves as a testament to the power of love transcending age barriers and societal norms.
