Fox News’ decision desk chief weighs in on when he thinks the 2024 election will be called

Fox News’ Decision Desk Chief Predicts When 2024 Election Results Will Be Announced

Arnon Mishkin, the chief of Fox News’ decision desk, has shared his insights on when he anticipates the 2024 election will be called. Mishkin, who is not officially employed by Fox but has led the network’s decision desk since 2008, believes that the “over/under” for announcing the election results is the Saturday following the election day – four days after Americans cast their votes.

In a recent interview with Politico, the 69-year-old Mishkin pointed out that the last election call in 2020, when Joe Biden emerged victorious, was made on the Saturday after the election. While Mishkin aims to declare the election winner as soon as possible, he acknowledges that finalizing the vote count may take a few days. He oversees a team of nine analysts and gained attention in 2012 for standing firm against Karl Rove’s objections to Fox’s call on Obama winning Ohio. In the 2020 election, Mishkin defended Fox’s controversial early projection of Biden winning Arizona, which Trump later contested.

Despite the chaos and discord caused by Trump’s efforts to challenge the election results in Arizona, Mishkin has affirmed that he has no intentions of stepping down as the decision desk chief for the upcoming election. With the 2024 race expected to be tightly contested, Mishkin emphasised that the timing of the election call will depend on critical battleground states like Pennsylvania that follow consistent reporting patterns.

Mishkin expressed, “The over/under is Saturday. Which was when the call was made last time. Which is when Pennsylvania is likely to come in.” He also highlighted the unpredictability of the election outcome, stating, “I think we have to accept the reality that we don’t really know how close this election is going to be. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be close.”

Reflecting on the outcome of the 2020 election, Mishkin defended Fox’s call on Biden winning Arizona, citing statistical evidence and modelling that indicated Trump would not be able to overtake Biden. Despite the tense atmosphere surrounding the election, Mishkin stood by the accuracy of the call, asserting that the data supported Biden’s victory.

Looking ahead to the 2024 election, Mishkin stressed the significance of Trump’s role, stating, “It’s less about who’s running against him than it’s about Trump.” While sharing his perspective on the 2020 election results, Mishkin highlighted the complexities involved in making accurate calls and the importance of relying on credible data and statistical analysis.

As November 2024 approaches, Arnon Mishkin remains at the forefront of Fox News’ decision desk, poised to guide the network through another potentially contentious election cycle. With his strategic approach and commitment to upholding the integrity of election reporting, Mishkin’s insights offer valuable perspectives on the intricacies of election forecasting and result announcements.
