Google’s New Feature Revolutionises Finding Cheap Flights
Google has unveiled a new button on its flight booking search service, ‘Google Flights’, aimed at helping travellers find the best deals on airfares quickly and easily. This latest addition, the “Cheapest” tab, allows users to view the most affordable flight options available, even if they involve unconventional routes or sacrifices in convenience.
Initially launched in 2011, Google Flights has been a popular tool for comparing flight times and prices from different airlines to various destinations worldwide. The platform typically displays flight options at the top of the search results based on a combination of price and convenience factors. However, the new “Cheapest” tab acknowledges that many travellers are willing to compromise on certain aspects in exchange for significant cost savings.
The updated feature is being gradually rolled out globally over a fortnight, with full implementation expected by the end of October. Travellers using Google Flights can input their trip details and select the “Cheapest” tab to explore alternative, more economical flight choices. These lower-priced options may involve longer layovers, self-transfers, or booking separate legs of the journey through different airlines or platforms.
Google has also introduced a “price guarantee” programme on Google Flights, starting in April 2023, to assist users in securing the best airfares available. Under this initiative, passengers are eligible for a refund of the price difference if the cost of their ticket decreases after purchase. The refund, distributed via Google Pay, is capped at $500 per calendar year and applies exclusively to flights displaying a “price guarantee” badge on Google Flights.
By catering to budget-conscious travellers and offering innovative solutions to optimise travel expenses, Google’s latest developments in the realm of flight bookings are set to facilitate a more cost-effective and efficient travel experience for consumers.
