Hollywood Bowl grows yearly sales as consumers splash more cash per game

Hollywood Bowl has experienced substantial growth in its yearly sales, with consumers increasing their spending per game at the bowling alleys. The ten-pin bowling operator, with 72 centres in the UK and 13 in Canada, has announced that it expects its full-year earnings to surpass analysts’ predictions.

Over the past year, Hollywood Bowl has achieved record sales, with revenues reaching £230.4 million for the year ending in September, marking a 7.2% increase from the previous year. In the UK, revenues grew by nearly 4% to £200 million, although like-for-like sales remained flat after accounting for new openings during the year. In contrast, sales in Canada saw a significant 42% surge following the launch of four new centres.

The company attributes its sales growth to the refurbishment and expansion of its bowling alleys, leading to increased customer engagement and higher spending per game. Customers are now inclined to spend more not only on bowling but also on food, drinks, and amusement machines during their visits.

Looking ahead, Hollywood Bowl plans to open four new bowling centres in the UK in the upcoming year, aiming to reach a total of 130 centres across the group by 2035. CEO Stephen Burns highlighted the strong demand for affordable leisure experiences, particularly among families seeking cost-effective outings amidst rising living expenses.

The company now anticipates that its earnings before tax and other costs will surpass £65 million, outperforming analysts’ expectations. Burns praised the team’s commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences, resulting in longer dwell times, increased spending per game, and positive feedback from customers.

As Hollywood Bowl continues to expand its presence and enhance its offerings, the company remains focused on providing enjoyable and affordable entertainment options for its growing customer base.
