A man accused of stealing drugs was struck on the head with a TV and rendered unconscious during an assault in East Kilbride. Zeshan Syed, aged 39, confessed to participating in an attack on a man in Westwood Square and Seymour Green back in November, along with other unnamed individuals. Despite being on bail at the time, Syed also pleaded guilty to punching, kicking, and menacing a second man. However, accusations linking Syed to the supply of cocaine, amphetamine, and diazepam were withdrawn.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court, Syed received a 26-month prison sentence, which was backdated to November 30 as he has been in custody since then. This isn’t Syed’s first encounter with the law, as in 2022, he was handed a 22-month jail term for possessing a machete. During that incident, Syed armed himself with the weapon after unwelcome visitors attempted to break into his residence in Ardochrig, East Kilbride. Subsequently, he engaged in threatening and abusive conduct towards police officers following his apprehension.
In another set of events, a charge against Syed for allegedly attempting to obstruct justice by cautioning a man and his family against reporting the assault to the authorities was dismissed. Despite his troubled history with the law, Syed’s criminal activities seem to have caught up with him, resulting in a significant jail sentence. The multiple instances of violent behaviour and association with illegal substances have now led to a substantial period behind bars for Syed, as justice takes its course.
