Max Verstappen has dismissed McLaren’s complaints following his podium finish at the American Grand Prix, further extending his lead in the title race. The Dutch driver’s response came after Lando Norris was penalised, allowing Verstappen to secure third place ahead of him.
Norris had voiced his frustration with the stewards’ decision, alleging that Verstappen’s defensive manoeuvre had forced him off the track. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella also criticised Red Bull’s tactics, suggesting that Verstappen gained an unfair advantage by running both cars off track.
Prior to the race, McLaren CEO Zak Brown had raised concerns about a device on the Red Bull car that could potentially adjust its setup between qualifying and the race. Despite Red Bull acknowledging the device’s existence, the FIA determined that no rules had been breached, closing the case.
In response to McLaren’s accusations, Verstappen defended his actions, emphasising that his move was within the rules regarding track limits. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner supported the stewards’ decision to penalise Norris for the off-track pass, asserting that it was a clear violation.
Norris expressed disappointment over the outcome, viewing the penalty as a setback in his championship aspirations.
