Teen sex killer, Jack Crawley, 19, has been convicted of the murder of Paul Taylor, 56, at Carlisle Crown Court. Crawley brutally attacked army veteran Mr Taylor with a claw hammer before trying to dispose of his body by burning and burying it. The pair met at a secluded spot outside Carlisle on October 18 last year, after which Mr Taylor was declared missing. Crawley later disclosed to police that Mr Taylor’s body would be found at Finglandrigg Wood, near Carlisle.
Cumbria Police have released body cam footage of Crawley’s arrest, with two clips from separate arrests in November 2023 and February 2024. The videos show Crawley’s calm demeanor during arrest, with one officer shouting, “he’s her,” as they apprehend him on the street. Another clip from February shows Crawley standing at the front desk in a police station, barely speaking as he is informed of his arrest on suspicion of murder. In a chilling third clip, taken in March 2024, Crawley is seen smirking and laughing as charges are read out to him.
Crawley faces the possibility of life imprisonment after being unanimously convicted by jurors. His attempts to concoct a story of a carjacking gone wrong and trying to break up Mr Taylor’s body after death were discredited by forensic evidence. The presiding judge, Mr Justice Goose, agreed with the jury’s verdict and scheduled Crawley’s sentencing for later in the week. Another man on trial, 20-year-old Marcus Goodfellow, was acquitted of aiding Crawley in disposing of the vehicle.
