Second man charged over ‘murder bid’ in Orkney as man left fighting for life

A second man has been charged over an alleged murder attempt in Orkney that left a man fighting for his life. Emergency services responded to a disturbance on Burnmouth Road in Kirkwall on Tuesday, October 15. Upon arrival, a man and a woman were discovered with injuries. The 38-year-old man was taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall before being transferred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he remains in critical condition. The condition of the 39-year-old woman, who was also treated at Balfour Hospital, is currently unknown. Detectives have stated that they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is expected to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Monday. Additionally, a 22-year-old man had previously been arrested and charged in relation to the case and was due to appear at Kirkwall Sheriff Court on Friday. Police Scotland released a statement confirming the arrest and charges: “A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attempted murder of a 38-year-old man and an assault on a 39-year-old woman on Burnmouth Road, Kirkwall, Orkney. The incident took place on Tuesday, 15 October, 2024. The man and woman were both taken to hospital for treatment.”
