Serial Rapist Found Guilty of Holding Woman Hostage in Soundproof Dungeon While Wife and Kids Were at Home
A man has been found guilty of a horrifying crime involving kidnapping and raping two women, with one victim being held hostage in a soundproof cinderblock cell while his wife and child were at home.
Negasi Zuberi, a 30-year-old from Klamath Falls, Oregon, has been convicted of two counts of kidnapping, transporting a victim for criminal sexual activity, and illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a previously convicted felon. According to a statement from Oregon’s District Attorney’s office, Zuberi faces life imprisonment at his sentencing.
During his trial, it was revealed that Zuberi, who used multiple different names and lived in various states, detailed his disturbing plans in a booklet titled “Operation Take Over.” One victim disclosed that Zuberi expressed his intention to impregnate women in order to “raise an army.”
The series of events unfolded when Zuberi abducted a woman working as a prostitute in Seattle by posing as a police officer on July 15, 2023. After shackling the victim and transporting her 450 miles to his residence in Klamath Falls, Zuberi subjected her to multiple sexual assaults before locking her in a dungeon he had purposefully built in his garage.
Remarkably, the woman managed to escape by breaking through the metal door of the cinderblock cell, resulting in a swift rescue operation involving law enforcement officers from Reno Police Department and Nevada State Patrol. Zuberi was eventually apprehended following a standoff in a Walmart car park in South Reno, Nevada.
Upon searching Zuberi’s property, authorities uncovered evidence of his sinister plans, including handwritten notes instructing on avoiding detection and building a deep hole. The FBI commended the woman for her courageous escape, highlighting how her actions potentially prevented other women from falling victim to a similar fate.
Furthermore, investigations revealed another victim who had encountered Zuberi weeks before the abduction in July. The victim recounted being bound and raped by Zuberi, who threatened dire consequences if she reported the incident to the authorities.
Zuberi’s heinous acts also prompted the FBI to look into potential links to similar violent sexual assaults in multiple states, raising concerns about the possibility of more victims yet to be uncovered.
