Hezbollah has launched a series of rockets into central Israel, triggering air raid sirens in the country’s most densely populated areas. However, there have been no reported injuries or damages resulting from the attack. The Israeli military confirmed that five rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel, with most of them being intercepted by Israel’s missile defense system, while one landed in an open area.
Simultaneously, Israeli police confirmed that about 15 more projectiles were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel. The rocket assault occurred as Israel intensified its military actions in Lebanon, targeting a financial institution associated with Hezbollah. This escalation comes amidst ongoing efforts by the U.S. to restart ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, following the recent passing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated his commitment to eradicating Hamas and securing the release of numerous hostages currently held by the group. In response, Hamas has stipulated that the hostages will only be released in exchange for a lasting ceasefire, a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the liberation of Palestinian prisoners.
The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas traces back to October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants breached Israel’s security barrier, resulting in the death of approximately 1,200 individuals, primarily civilians, and the abduction of 250 others. According to local health authorities, Israel’s offensive in Gaza has led to the deaths of over 42,000 Palestinians, with approximately 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents being displaced. The war has caused extensive destruction in Gaza, underscoring the urgency for a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict.
