Green light given to transform 117-year-old Girvan bandstand into café and events space
The Adventure Centre for Education group has received approval to revamp the historic Girvan Bandstand into an events space and café. The group, which acquired ownership of the bandstand earlier this year, has been granted permission to proceed with the transformation. Following their planning application to South Ayrshire Council, which included a change of use for the bandstand, the proposals have now been given the green light. The group plans to employ nine staff members once the hub is operational, offering a variety of roles such as bandstand operations manager, marketing and events officer, catering manager, and more.
The anticipated operational hours for the bandstand café are set to be from Tuesdays to Sundays, with a range of food options available, including soups, sandwiches, cakes, and hot/cold drinks. The space is also expected to feature a veranda for patrons to enjoy the picturesque views of the Ayrshire coastline. Additionally, the hub will accommodate small functions, events, and pop-ups, while also offering toilets for public use. Operating as a social enterprise, the project aims to provide work experience opportunities for young people and those re-entering the workforce.
The Girvan Bandstand, originally built in 1907 as a tea kiosk, has been vacant for the past two decades.
