Talk show host and former Navy man Montel Williams is set to co-write a new history book about the USS Intrepid. The news was announced by Hanover Square Press, revealing that the book titled “The Sailing of the Intrepid” will be co-authored by Williams and David Fisher, and is scheduled to be published on May 6.
The upcoming book will delve into the USS Intrepid’s crucial combat voyage during World War II in 1944. It will highlight the ship and crew’s remarkable survival of a Japanese torpedo plane attack, showcasing their bravery and resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges.
In a statement, Williams expressed his admiration for the Intrepid’s crew, praising their unwavering courage and resourcefulness in difficult circumstances. Williams, aged 68, has a distinguished military background himself, having enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1974 and later completing officer training at the U.S. Naval Academy. After over 20 years of service, he retired in 1996 and received several prestigious honours, including two Meritorious Service Medals and two Navy Commendation Medals. Currently, he hosts the show “Military Makeover with Montel” on Lifetime.
Hanover Square Press, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing, will be responsible for releasing the book. The collaboration between Williams and Fisher is anticipated to shed light on the historic events surrounding the USS Intrepid and honour the valiant efforts of its crew members.
