In West Lothian, there are 50 dogs at Dogs Trust West Calder eagerly waiting for a forever home this Christmas season. With less than 10 weeks until Christmas, the charity is on a mission to find loving homes for as many of these dogs as possible. This effort comes as the charity has received over 32,000 handover enquiries this year from owners unable to care for their dogs, but has successfully rehomed over 6,000 dogs across the UK. Stella, a one-year-old Crossbreed, is one of the dogs hoping for a new home. Described as sweet, shy, and affectionate, Stella is eager to bring joy and happiness to a new family.
Stella is seeking a quiet home with experienced owners who can provide her with the support she needs to build her confidence at her own pace. While she can live with children aged 16 and over, Stella would prefer to be the only pet in the home to receive the attention and love she deserves. Susan Tonner, the Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, emphasises the importance of finding forever homes for these dogs before Christmas, highlighting that while the dogs will be cared for during the festive season, nothing compares to the love and security of a permanent home.
For nearly 50 years, Dogs Trust has promoted the message “A Dog is for Life, Not Just for Christmas,” encouraging responsible ownership and discouraging impulse pet purchases. The charity continues to find homes for thousands of dogs each year, providing ongoing support and guidance to owners to ensure the well-being of the dogs. In recent years, Dogs Trust has seen a surge in rehoming requests, with over 32,000 enquiries so far in 2024. The commitment to finding suitable homes for dogs remains a top priority for the charity, as they strive to match each dog with a family that best suits their needs. As the holiday season approaches, the focus is on ensuring that every dog in their care finds a happy and loving home.
