Agnes Nisbett, now 87 years old, experienced the heartbreaking loss of a stillbirth in 1973 and has since devoted her life to creating a safe and supportive environment for women who have gone through similar tragedies. After the loss of her own son, John, many years ago, Agnes initiated the Born Whilst Sleeping programme at Leicester Royal Infirmary. She set up a separate room for grieving mothers, away from the main maternity ward, and encouraged them to create lasting memories through photographs and palm prints.
At the emotional award ceremony, Kym Marsh, who had also experienced the loss of her own child in 2009, expressed her deep gratitude to Agnes. Sharing her personal connection to the pain of baby loss, Kym thanked Agnes for making the experience more bearable and impactful.
