Shoplifting in the UK has reached an all-time high, with new figures revealing that there were almost 1,300 offences recorded every day last year. Police forces in England and Wales logged a total of 469,788 shoplifting offences in the year to June 2024, showing a significant increase of 29% compared to the previous 12 months.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that this figure is the highest since records began in the year to March 2003.
