Dr. Michael Mosley’s Diet Reverses Type 2 Diabetes in Days, Study Finds

A recent study published in BMJ Case Reports suggests that intermittent fasting could potentially reverse type 2 diabetes and eliminate the need for insulin while effectively managing blood glucose levels. This research indicates that planned intermittent fasting, like the one promoted by Dr. Michael Mosley’s Fast 800 diet plan, may have a significant impact on reversing type 2 diabetes.

While lifestyle changes play a crucial role in managing the disease, they may not always be sufficient in controlling blood glucose levels. The study highlighted that although gastric band surgery can be effective, it comes with risks, and drugs may help manage symptoms but not stop the disease’s progression. However, intermittent fasting has emerged as a promising method to address this issue.

The study involved three men, aged between 40 and 67, who were suffering from type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. These men followed a fasting schedule where two of them fasted every other day for 24 hours, while the third fasted for three days a week. On fasting days, they were allowed to consume very low-calorie drinks and a single low-calorie meal in the evening.

After approximately 10 months of following the fasting routine, the participants experienced improvements in fasting blood glucose levels, average blood glucose levels, weight, and waist size. Remarkably, all three men were able to cease insulin injections within a month of starting the fasting schedule, with one individual stopping after just five days. Additionally, two of the men successfully discontinued all other diabetes medications, and the third reduced his medication intake.

The lead researcher, Dr. Jason Fung, from Scarborough Hospital in Ontario, Canada, emphasized the positive impact of the fasting regimen on the participants’ health outcomes. He noted that while the study’s findings are based on a small sample size and further research is needed, therapeutic fasting has the potential to reverse or reduce the need for diabetic medication significantly.

In conclusion, the study’s results provide promising insights into the effectiveness of intermittent fasting as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes. Further research and clinical trials are necessary to explore the broader implications of this approach in managing and reversing the disease.

Insights and Summary:
Dr. Michael Mosley’s diet plan, based on intermittent fasting, has shown promising results in reversing type 2 diabetes in a recent study published in BMJ Case Reports. The findings suggest that fasting schedules could help individuals reduce or eliminate their dependence on insulin and manage blood glucose levels effectively. This highlights the potential of lifestyle interventions like intermittent fasting in addressing chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes. Further research is needed to validate these findings and explore the long-term benefits of fasting regimens in diabetes management.
