Scream Star Drops Hint at Comeback to Franchise 20 Years Later
Actor Patrick Dempsey has hinted at a possible return to the Scream franchise after two decades, teasing fans with the possibility of reprising his role as detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3. In a recent interview, the Grey’s Anatomy star shared that discussions have taken place regarding his return and that he is currently awaiting a script for the potential sequel.
Having first appeared in 2000’s Scream 3, Dempsey’s character survived the Ghostface murders in the film. While he did not feature in any subsequent Scream movies, it was revealed in 2022’s Scream that his character was married to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott with whom he shares three children.
Expressing his sentiment about the potential comeback, Dempsey quipped, “I mean, you know, it’s always good to have a job.” The actor also reminisced about working with Campbell on Grey’s Anatomy back in Season 9, where she portrayed his character’s sister.
Scream 7 has faced its fair share of setbacks and controversy with the exits of former stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, as well as director Christopher Landon. Barrera was let go from the franchise following comments made on social media related to the Israel-Hamas conflict in November 2023. Ortega, who played Barrera’s sister in the series, also had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix show Wednesday. Director Landon also parted ways with Scream 7, citing unforeseen challenges.
Despite the challenges, Neve Campbell has confirmed her return to the franchise and revealed that original screenwriter and director Kevin Williamson will take the helm for the seventh installment. Campbell, who portrays iconic character Sidney Prescott, had briefly left the franchise due to a contractual dispute but will now be back for the upcoming movie scheduled for release on 27th February 2026.
