Willie Mossie, a former burger van addict from Scotland, has recently undergone a remarkable transformation by dropping more than six stones and reducing his shirt size from XXXXL to medium. The 42-year-old truck driver, who used to weigh over 19 stone, achieved this incredible feat through the guidance of men’s health programme, Man v Fat.

Previously, Mossie would make frequent visits to greasy spoons for rolls, sausage, cheeseburgers, and other unhealthy options. However, after joining Man v Fat and switching to a healthier diet consisting of mini cucumbers, carrot sticks, and playing football in the Man v Fat league, he successfully shed the excess weight. Over a period of two and a half years, Mossie managed to decrease his weight to 13 stones 2lb and also significantly improve his half marathon timings.

Reflecting on his journey, Mossie mentioned that prior to joining Man v Fat, he realized he was consuming too much food and drink, leading to excessive weight gain. Despite having to make substantial changes to his diet and exercise routine, he humbly admits, “One of the things I have learned is that I am still a greedy person.” His newfound discipline includes ensuring that even during festival weekends, he promptly resumes his healthy diet the very next day.

The camaraderie within the Man v Fat community has played a crucial role in Mossie’s success. By participating in weekly football matches where weight loss contributes to the team’s goals, he found added motivation to achieve his targets. Mossie emphasized, “When you are doing it for your team, it puts a whole new element to it because you don’t want to let your team down.”

Furthermore, he highlighted the inclusive nature of Man v Fat, stating, “It doesn’t matter what team you are on, we are all fighting for the same cause.” Beyond weight loss, the program has fostered lasting friendships, providing a support system through group chats, weekly challenges, and ongoing motivation.

Even after reaching his goal weight, Mossie continues to stay engaged with the club, advocating for other men to join their local Man v Fat group. With branches across Scotland in Glasgow, Paisley, East Kilbride, Edinburgh, and Fife, the program caters to obese men with a BMI above 27.5.
