Two community groups in Rutherglen came together for a spooky Halloween celebration at the Reuther Hall. Nostalgia and People’s Past People’s Future (PPPF) organised a joint fancy dress event at the Victoria Street venue, inviting older community members to enjoy a night of music by DJ Gordon Hutchison and a tasty buffet donated by Malcolm McAskill.
The Halloween Hoolie saw party-goers dressed up in their best costumes, with some even facing unexpected challenges post-party. Ruglonian activist Joyce Wilson, who had work the following morning, found herself unable to completely remove her green face paint, resulting in her showing up at work still looking like a witch.
Geraldine Baird from Nostalgia commented on the success of the event, mentioning plans to continue the Halloween tradition annually. Likewise, Liz McWilliamson from PPPF highlighted the popularity of the community event, with guests of all ages, including 82-year-old Chrissie McCann, enthusiastically taking part in the festivities.
The organisers expressed delight in bringing the community together for a night of free and fun entertainment, signalling the possibility of more collaborative events in the future. Despite the unexpected surprises and challenges faced by some attendees, the Halloween Hoolie proved to be a memorable and enjoyable experience for all who participated.
