Inquest opens into death of wrong-way horror crash driver after Scots killed on M6

An inquest into the death of a driver involved in a wrong-way horror crash that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three Scots, on the M6 motorway has commenced. The tragic incident occurred when Richard Woods collided head-on with the vehicle carrying Jaroslaw Rossa, along with his two sons, Filip and Dominic, and passenger Jade McEnroe, who was Jaroslaw’s partner. Woods’ car was travelling in the wrong direction on the motorway when the collision occurred earlier this month.

The inquest proceedings, held at Cockermouth Coroners’ Court, revealed that Richard Woods succumbed to multiple injuries as a result of the crash. According to reports from the BBC, the collision took place on the northbound carriageway of the M6 in Cumbria, near Tebay services, after Woods’ vehicle struck the car carrying the Glasgow family who were heading back home.

Margaret Taylor, assistant coroner for Cumbria, stated during the inquest that Mr. Woods had been driving his Skoda southbound on the M6 motorway between junctions 38 and 39 when the tragic incident occurred. She mentioned that Mr. Woods and the occupants of the Toyota vehicle he collided with lost their lives in the crash. Woods, a 40-year-old flight instructor from Cambridgeshire, tragically passed away just four days before his 41st birthday.

Jaroslaw Rossa, aged 42, his sons Filip, 15, and Dominic, 7, hailed from Thornliebank in Glasgow. While Jaroslaw and his sons were fatally injured in the crash, Jade’s seven-year-old son, Arran, survived but sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for treatment. The inquest was adjourned pending further investigations.
