Sleep Expert Warns Snoozing Alarm Clock Prevents Easier Waking Up

It seems that a common habit many of us indulge in each morning might actually be hindering our ability to wake up feeling refreshed. As reported by Surrey Live, sleep expert Adeel Ul-Haq from Bunk Beds cautions against hitting the snooze button repeatedly, despite the allure of those extra minutes of shut-eye, especially now that the days are darker following the clock change.

Ul-Haq explains that the fleeting moments of dozing off after hitting snooze are not sufficient for entering restorative or REM sleep. This disrupted pattern can lead to increased heart rate and blood pressure, leaving us feeling groggy, irritable, and tired for hours after waking up. Instead of succumbing to the snooze temptation, the expert advises getting up promptly when the alarm first rings for a more energized start to the day.

To combat the urge to snooze, Ul-Haq suggests two simple strategies. Either sit up and place your feet on the ground as soon as the alarm goes off or place the alarm away from the bed, forcing you to physically get up and turn it off. Additionally, he recommends kickstarting your day with a glass of cold water to invigorate your senses and avoid the temptation of returning to bed, setting a gentle alarm tone to ease into waking up gradually.

As we adjust to the darker mornings, breaking the habit of snoozing the alarm can significantly impact how we feel throughout the day and improve overall well-being. By following these expert tips, we can strive for more restful and rejuvenating mornings, setting a positive tone for the day ahead.
