St Mirren star Kevin van Veen faces court charges for three-year abuse campaign against woman
Footballer Kevin van Veen has appeared in court charged with conducting a three-year campaign of abuse against a woman. The Dutch striker, 33, is alleged to have carried out a catalogue of incidents at addresses in Cancun, Mexico, Lanarkshire, Inverclyde, and Renfrewshire. Prosecutors claim van Veen repeatedly shouted, swore, uttered threats of violence and offensive remarks towards the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, between September 2021 and July this year.
Van Veen is alleged to have pulled down her clothing and underwear to expose her naked body without her consent. He is further said to have repeatedly forced her to stand naked during arguments. Court papers state he monitored her mobile phone and social media activity. Van Veen faces further claims he repeatedly seized hold of her body and that he pushed her off a bed while she was pregnant. He is also said to have repeatedly prevented her from sleeping and to have repeatedly turned up at the homes of her family members and refused to leave when asked.
The footballer is said to have repeatedly demanded that the woman attend at his property and persistently called and texted her and her family members. He is also accused of locking her inside his home and also to have removed her sanitary products from a waste bin and shown it to others. Van Veen, of Glasgow, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged under domestic abuse laws. He made no plea during a brief hearing and the case was continued until November 28 by Sheriff Michael Higgins.
Van Veen is currently on loan at St Mirren from Dutch side Groningen. He previously had spells at Motherwell and Kilmarnock.
