Residents in Moredun, Edinburgh, have been left terrified after a group of thugs attacked homes and cars with fireworks on Halloween night. The incident, which took place on Thursday, October 31, saw a gang of youths setting off fireworks, smashing windows of buildings, and causing chaos in the neighbourhood.
Eyewitnesses reported that windows in Craigour Green were smashed, and a construction site was completely destroyed. Images taken after the chaos show shattered glass strewn across the floor and every window at the entrance of Moredun House smashed.
One local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that around 30 youths started setting off fireworks near tower blocks and a construction site. Despite multiple calls to the police, no officers arrived as the group proceeded to block roads with fencing and attack cars and people with fireworks.
Police Scotland has stated that investigations are ongoing to identify those involved in the disorder in various parts of the city on Halloween evening. In another incident in Niddrie, a police officer was injured, and a 14-year-old was arrested for allegedly firing rockets and bricks at people and buses.
Incidents of fireworks-related disorder were also reported at Moredunvale Road, Southhouse Road, Captains Road, and West Pilton Park. Following intelligence about planned disorder, a warrant was executed at an address where a quantity of fireworks and petrol cans were recovered.
Chief Superintendent David Robertson, commander for Edinburgh Division, condemned the violence, emphasizing that those responsible will be held to account for their actions. He reassured the community that local policing teams, supported by specialist resources, are working to address any further incidents of disorder or criminality related to fireworks in the area.
