Eerie CCTV footage has emerged showing a sexual predator tracking a young woman through the streets before attempting to rape her in his car. The culprit, Ghulan Mohammed, 36, was sentenced to seven years and three months for his heinous actions. The incident took place in Leicester city centre when Mohammed spotted a woman in her 20s who was separated from her friends and appeared to be in a vulnerable state. The chilling CCTV captures Mohammed following the woman in his car before engaging her in conversation and persuading her to get into his vehicle in the early hours of December 18, 2023. After driving her to a remote area, he sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her.
The victim, visibly distressed, tried to escape by banging on the window of a petrol station and pleading for help. Thankfully, she managed to send live location notifications and voice notes to her friends, who quickly came to her rescue. Mohammed fled the scene, leaving the victim with injuries and covered in mud. Despite language barriers, the victim used a translation app on her phone to beg Mohammed to stop his abuse. Through extensive CCTV analysis, detectives identified Mohammed and arrested him at his home the following day.
After a five-week trial, Mohammed was found guilty of attempted rape, sexual touching, theft, and fraud. He was sentenced to over seven years in prison for his predatory actions. Detective Constable Sarah Le Boutillier commended the victim’s friends for their swift response, which led to Mohammed’s arrest and prevented further crimes. Maimuna Bappa from the Crown Prosecution Service described the victim’s ordeal as terrifying and praised her courage in resisting the attacker and assisting in the investigation.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action in preventing and addressing such crimes. It also highlights the bravery and resilience of survivors in seeking justice and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
In summary, the harrowing incident captured on CCTV underscores the persistence of sexual predators and the critical role of community intervention in thwarting their harmful intentions. The victim’s courage and quick thinking, supported by her friends and law enforcement, led to the apprehension of the perpetrator and justice being served. Such cases shed light on the ongoing need for vigilant awareness and solidarity in combatting sexual violence in society.
