Wishaw man broke his son’s jaw by kicking him on the face during fight

A man in Wishaw broke his son’s jaw by kicking him in the face during a fight, just a month after attacking his mother at her home. Graeme Lewis, aged 40 and residing at Hawthorn Drive in Wishaw, confessed to assaulting his 22-year-old son, causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement. The incident took place at Lewis’s residence on May 7 last year. Aga Mathieson, the prosecutor, stated that it was acknowledged that Lewis’s actions were provoked.

Lewis’s son visited the house around 9 pm, leading to an argument and physical altercation. During the fight, the son fell to the ground, and Lewis proceeded to kick him in the head, causing him to lose consciousness. Police were contacted, and the victim was transported to the hospital with a broken jaw and a thumb wound. An accusation that Lewis had bitten his son’s hand was removed from the charge.

Additionally, Lewis admitted to hitting his mother on the head with a tin of food at her residence on Curlinghaugh Crescent on April 4 last year. The court was informed that Lewis arrived at his mother’s home at approximately 5:30 pm, where a confrontation ensued, resulting in him throwing a shopping bag at her, causing a one-inch cut from the tin hitting her head.

Hamilton Sheriff Court deferred sentencing for Lewis until the following month to allow for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. This case sheds light on the serious consequences of violent behaviour within families and the legal repercussions individuals face for such actions, highlighting the importance of seeking help to break the cycle of violence.

In summary, a disturbing incident occurred in Wishaw where a father broke his son’s jaw during a fight, escalating from a previous act of violence towards his mother. The legal proceedings following this event underscore the gravity of domestic violence and the need for accountability and intervention to prevent further harm within families. It serves as a reminder of the cruciality of addressing and resolving conflicts in a non-violent manner to maintain safety and wellbeing among family members.
