A man recently shared his extraordinary journey of overcoming immense medical challenges after undergoing quintuple heart bypass surgery at the age of 34. Simarjot Singh Judge, 36, was diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia in June 2022. This genetic disorder causes high cholesterol levels in the blood and had gone undetected as he believed his symptoms were due to severe indigestion. After experiencing chest pain, he was informed that one artery was completely blocked, another 75% blocked, and the third 50% blocked, making his condition life-threatening.
Simarjot underwent the rare quintuple heart bypass surgery, which diverted blood flow around five blockages in his arteries supplying the heart. Despite facing post-surgery complications such as sepsis, Simarjot demonstrated resilience and strength during his recovery. He emphasised the importance of one’s reaction to life’s challenges, highlighting the significance of perseverance and determination.
His journey was marked by personal loss, with his father passing away from sepsis in 2021 due to the same genetic condition. Simarjot’s own diagnosis led to a transformative outlook on life, prompting him to prioritize self-care and cherish the support network around him. Through physiotherapy, lifestyle changes, and medical treatment, he managed to regain his health and find love with his partner Savita Klear.
