Plains Primary School has achieved a gold award from sportscotland, setting a high standard for sports excellence. The pupils were overjoyed to celebrate this prestigious accolade, which recognises their outstanding efforts in sports. This achievement was commemorated with the entire school community during a special assembly.
A spokesperson from Plains Primary School expressed their delight, attributing the award to the school’s dedicated action plan to advance sports and physical activities. Working closely with Vikki Atkinson from Active Schools, the school community successfully implemented the targets outlined in the plan, making sports and physical activity a top priority. All students participated in two hours of physical education each week and had the opportunity to join various after-school clubs focusing on sports. Additionally, senior pupils were trained as sports leaders to conduct active lunchtime clubs for younger students.
Plains Primary School actively engaged in a variety of sporting events and festivals organised by the Active Schools team of North Lanarkshire Council. Among Airdrie primary schools, Plains Primary School is one of only three schools to receive this distinguished award. At the assembly, students proudly showcased their gold flag alongside school staff, Councillor Alan Beveridge, and Active Schools representative Michael McChord.
In conclusion, Plains Primary School’s remarkable accomplishment exemplifies their commitment to promoting sports and physical activity within the school community. This gold award is a testament to their dedication and hard work, inspiring other schools to prioritise sports excellence and overall well-being.
