Surf’s up for Children in West Lothian as Lost Shore Resort Opens
West Lothian kids are in for an exciting adventure as they get to experience surfing at the new Lost Shore Surf Resort, located just outside West Lothian in Ratho. This resort features Europe’s largest wave pool, offering a thrilling experience for both seasoned surfers and beginners. The £60 million resort is considered the largest investment in Scottish sporting infrastructure since the 2014 Commonwealth Games, with state-of-the-art facilities catering to athletes and visitors alike.
Children from schools in West Lothian will have the unique opportunity to learn how to surf at this magnificent resort. Powered by Wavegarden technology, the resort’s wave pool can generate up to 1,000 waves per hour. Spanning 160 metres, this enormous cove, three times the size of Wembley Stadium’s pitch, is set in a former quarry in Ratho.
Professional Scottish big wave surfer, Ben Larg, highlighted the significance of Lost Shore for the surf community, describing it as one of the world’s best training facilities for surfing, a novelty in Scotland. With surf lessons and surfskating available, surfers can hone their skills on dry land before taking to the water.
Anticipating around 160,000 annual visitors, the resort is poised to create 130 new jobs and inject £11 million into the local economy each year. Apart from surfing, visitors can indulge in various amenities such as eateries, luxury accommodation, wellness treatments, a sauna, and a waterfront bar. Additionally, the resort promotes inclusivity in sports through partnerships with charities like Inclusive Surfing Scotland and The Wave Project.
