Dumfries and Galloway Rotary Clubs Celebrate Charity Success
A wonderful sum of £23,542 has been raised by two Rotary Clubs in Dumfries and Galloway for two deserving causes. The Dumfries Devorgilla and Dalbeattie Rotary Clubs joined forces to host their very first Am/Am Charity Golf Tournament at the prestigious Southerness Championship links course earlier this year. To commemorate their successful fundraising efforts, a presentation was held at the Holiday Inn in Dumfries where they handed over the proceeds to Bruce Port from Macmillan Cancer Support and Mia Noquet from My Name’s Doddie Foundation, with each charity receiving £11,771.
The presidents of both clubs, Bob Carruthers from Dumfries Devorgilla and Stephen Howie from Dalbeattie, expressed their gratitude towards all the individuals who participated in or supported the fundraising event. My Name’s Doddie Foundation, chosen by Dalbeattie Rotary, focuses on supporting individuals affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Mia Noquet highlighted the challenges faced by MND patients, the lack of a cure, and the foundation’s commitment to funding research to improve outcomes for those diagnosed with the illness. Drawing inspiration from former rugby player Doddie Weir, the foundation has allocated £18 million for scientific research, offering hope for advancements in treatment.
