Mum devastated after pet dog killed on train tracks returned in two bin bags

A heartbroken mother shared her devastating story after her family’s pet dog tragically lost its life on train tracks and was returned to them in two bin bags. Keylisha Gleeson’s beloved Chow Chow, named Trent, managed to escape from their garden in Kirkdale, Liverpool on Monday, November 4. Frantic with worry, Keylisha took to Facebook to seek information on Trent’s whereabouts. Various individuals informed her that the two-year-old pup had been seen near the Kirkdale traction maintenance depot close to Bank Hall station.

Upon contacting the station for information, Keylisha’s mother, Tracy, received the heartbreaking news that a dog had been fatally injured on the railway tracks. The family was devastated by the confirmation that Trent had been killed in a tragic accident. Keylisha recounted, “They said they would retrieve him since it happened, but they had to get special people out because where he was on the tracks was too dangerous. This morning (November 7) they handed over two black bin bags with pieces of the dog in both bags.”

Expressing her trauma, Keylisha revealed the emotional toll the incident had taken on her and her children. She described how her non-verbal two-year-old daughter seemed confused and saddened by Trent’s absence, while her other daughter deeply missed their beloved pet. Keylisha believed that Trent could have been saved if appropriate action had been taken by rail staff when he was first spotted near the tracks.

A spokesperson for Stadler Rail Group, the operator of the Kirkdale depot, expressed their condolences for the loss of Trent and detailed the events following the dog’s presence near the tracks. Both Stadler Rail Group and Merseyrail emphasized their sympathy for Keylisha and her family during this difficult time and pledged to review their procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Keylisha cherished Trent, whom she had adopted at a young age, as a loving and gentle family dog. She intended to lodge a complaint about the circumstances surrounding his passing. Despite the heartbreaking ordeal, Keylisha fondly remembered Trent as a devoted pet who brought joy to her family with his affectionate nature.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, Keylisha’s family and community rallied around her to offer support and comfort during this challenging period of grief and loss.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action in ensuring the safety of pets and animals near railway tracks and other potentially hazardous environments.
