A British beautician is speaking out after being arrested in the US for allegedly smuggling cocaine, facing the prospect of spending decades behind bars. Kim Hall, 28, from Middlesbrough in Teesside, was shocked when Homeland Security investigators discovered 43kg of cocaine in her two suitcases at Chicago’s O’Hare airport. The incident occurred as she was about to catch a connecting flight to Manchester on August 18.
Hall claims that she believed she was transporting two bags of cash from Mexico to the UK, rather than cocaine. She stated that she had agreed to carry the suitcases for two British men who she met during a previous trip to Portugal. The men allegedly threatened her at gunpoint to carry the bags after offering her a free holiday to Mexico. Hall maintains her innocence, stating that she had no knowledge of the drugs and that she was coerced into carrying them.
After missing her initial flight due to a timing mix-up, Hall faced further pressure from one of the men who reportedly threatened her with a gun. Upon landing in Chicago for a connecting flight, customs officials became suspicious of her luggage and conducted a search, leading to her arrest. Currently under house arrest, Hall is allowed out only two days a week and is monitored with electronic tags.
