Dumfries and Galloway Runner Embarks on Challenge to Circle Mauritius Coastline

Chris Thomson, a man from Dumfries and Galloway, has embarked on an ambitious challenge to run around the coastline of Mauritius. The 34-year-old adrenaline junkie from Glenkens started his TourdeMauritius on Monday with the goal of completing the journey and returning to the capital of Port Louis by Saturday evening. Chris aims to raise awareness and funds for a variety of charities, including Movember, Mind, Dementia UK, British Heart Foundation, MNDA, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and Maggie’s Cancer Care.

Describing his first day’s experience where he reached Grand Riviere Noire, Chris shared his excitement on social media, calling it “awesome.” Despite the hot weather, he navigated roads and trails, ensuring to stay hydrated along the way. Chris joked about his fair complexion, stating, “Given I’m a pale little tubby Scotsman I’m pretty chuffed with it overall!” During part of his first day’s run, he was accompanied by Yan De Maroussem, the current record holder for running around Mauritius.

Chris has a personal connection to raising awareness for mental health issues after a friend, Hamish Lock, tragically took his own life. In the past, Chris achieved notable feats such as running 800 miles in November and December, completing 10 marathons in 10 days, and running a 32-mile ultra-marathon in each of Scotland’s 32 council areas within 32 days, a first-time accomplishment.

In conclusion, Chris Thomson’s resolve to challenge himself physically while supporting charitable causes is truly commendable. His determination to make a difference and raise awareness for mental health issues through his running endeavours serves as an inspiration to many.
