Former Chef Reveals Queen’s ‘Disciplined’ Diet
The late Queen’s former chef, Darren McGrady, has shared insights into Her Majesty’s disciplined eating habits. Despite the opportunity to feast on extravagant banquets, the Queen opted for a simple diet of poached or grilled fish with vegetables and salad, often avoiding carbs when dining alone. McGrady highlighted her discipline, noting that it is a key factor in maintaining her health and well-being.
In a 2017 interview with CNN, McGrady praised the Queen’s commitment to a healthy diet, stating, “She’s very disciplined like that. She could have anything she wanted, but it is that discipline that keeps her so well and so healthy.” Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, also commented on the Queen’s modest eating preferences, describing her as ‘not a great eater’ and mentioning her enjoyment of dishes like salmon fishcakes or scrambled eggs on toast.
The revelations about the Queen’s diet come as Tom Parker Bowles recently released his book, ‘Cooking & The Crown’, which features over a hundred recipes enjoyed by various monarchs. While the book includes extravagant dishes, it also highlights simpler favourites like ‘buttered eggs’, a classic Boxing Day treat attributed to Princess Margaret.
Nutritionist Helen Bell emphasised the health benefits of eggs, noting their high protein content that can aid in weight loss by promoting satiety. She recommended consuming eggs as a snack prepared in a healthy way, such as boiling or poaching, to avoid excess fats.
Despite the Queen’s access to lavish meals, her preference for a disciplined and straightforward diet sheds light on her commitment to healthy eating habits. The insights shared by McGrady and Parker Bowles offer a glimpse into the Queen’s culinary choices and the balance she maintains between indulgence and moderation in her diet.
