Vile rapist held terrified victim against her will in Scots flat and tortured XL Bullies

A despicable rapist who held a woman captive in a Scottish flat and tortured XL Bullies has been sentenced following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh on September 9. Christian Schonenberger, 22, was found guilty of subjecting the victim to a series of violent, controlling, and sexual abuses. In addition to the charges related to the woman, he also pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to two XL Bully dogs by repeatedly assaulting them.

The victim, who was abused over a year in various locations in Dundee, endured a nightmare of isolation, physical assaults, and restrictions on her freedom. Schonenberger cut her off from her support system, prevented her from finding work, and monitored her every move. He used physical violence, including choking, beating with objects, and inflicting severe injuries with knives, to intimidate and harm her.

Even from prison, Schonenberger continued to manipulate and intimidate the victim, urging her not to attend court and trying to coerce her into withdrawing her allegations. In court, he was handed a seven and a half year sentence, with four-and-a-half years to be served in custody. A lifelong ban from contacting the victim, owning animals for 10 years, and registration as a sex offender were also imposed on him.

Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offending, Katrina Parkes, praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and stressed the importance of reporting such heinous crimes. Parkes denounced Schonenberger’s actions as depraved and emphasized the need for justice for victims of similar offences.

The chilling case highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse and seeking help. The court’s decision to hold Schonenberger accountable sends a powerful message that such behaviour will not be tolerated in Scotland. Victims are encouraged to report any form of abuse, with assurances that they will be supported through the pursuit of justice.

It is crucial for society to continue to raise awareness, offer support to survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. Domestic abuse and violence against both humans and animals must be condemned and addressed to create a safer environment for all individuals.
