East Kilbride chippy named ‘best in the west’

An East Kilbride chippy has been named the ‘best in the west’ of Scotland at the national Fish and Chip Awards held in Glasgow. The Kraken Chippy in Stuart Street took home the coveted Best in the West of Scotland gong, impressing judges with their quality, taste, freshness, value, authenticity, and innovation. Owner Steven Simpson, who opened the award-winning chippy in East Kilbride earlier this year, originally started the business in Cambuslang five years ago before bringing it to his hometown.

Each fish and chip shop across Scotland was meticulously evaluated by judges, who made unannounced visits to sample the offerings. Other notable award recipients included Buen Appetito in Clarkston, Barassie Chippy in Troon, Bertie’s in Edinburgh, and Frankie’s in Shetland. The Fish and Chip Awards, organised by Paramount Creative, aim to celebrate the best in the classic takeaway dish and recognize establishments that prioritize quality and customer satisfaction.

CEO Warren Paul highlighted the rigorous judging process that ensures fairness and consistency in selecting the winners. He emphasized the dedication of the entrants in providing top-notch food to customers and encouraged people to try out the winning chippies for themselves. The event showcased a diverse range of fish and chip shops from various locations, underscoring the widespread love for this iconic British meal.

The success of The Kraken Chippy and other winners demonstrates the enduring popularity and excellence within the fish and chip industry in Scotland. These establishments not only serve delicious food but also uphold high standards of quality and customer service. By honouring the best in the west of Scotland, the Fish and Chip Awards recognise the dedication and passion of those who work tirelessly to provide outstanding fish and chip experiences to customers.

In conclusion, the accolade bestowed upon The Kraken Chippy highlights the thriving culinary scene in East Kilbride and underscores the town’s reputation for top-notch dining options. The award serves as a testament to the hard work and commitment of local businesses in delivering exceptional food and enriching the culinary landscape of Scotland.
