North Lanarkshire Council is currently conducting a community engagement exercise on the updated design for the East Airdrie Link Road. The single-carriageway road is set to connect from just north of the M8 at the A73 Newhouse Interchange to the A73 north of Stand and Riggend, providing access to the replacement Monklands Hospital at Wester Moffat.
This project is part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal and aims to enhance journey times and transport reliability, improve connectivity between residential areas, town centres, business hubs, and educational institutions, as well as enhance air quality by reducing congestion along the existing A73 route.
Residents and businesses along the route have the opportunity to view the latest proposals online or at Airdrie, Chapelhall, and Cumbernauld libraries until January 10. Feedback can be provided both online and in person at the designated locations. The input received will be compiled and presented to the enterprise and fair work committee in early 2025 and will be made available on the council’s website.
Councillor Alex McVey, convener of the enterprise and fair work committee, expressed the importance of community involvement in shaping the project. The council has continued to refine the route, identifying key infrastructure points such as junctions, roundabouts, and bridges to minimize the impact on local lands and properties.
This initiative underscores the council’s commitment to engaging with the community and incorporating their feedback into the development process to ensure the East Airdrie Link Road meets the needs and expectations of all stakeholders involved. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in the engagement exercise to contribute to the project’s evolution and success.
