A shocking incident occurred in Coatbridge town centre, resulting in a young man being permanently disfigured after an unprovoked attack. Hadi Atti, aged 19, has been sentenced to two years of supervision, 200 hours of unpaid community work, and a four-month home curfew due to the severity of his actions. The assault took place on Main Street in Coatbridge on December 17, with Atti admitting to assaulting a man, causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The attack occurred around 1 am as the victim, who was unknown to Atti, was walking towards a taxi rank after a night out. Police officers witnessed the assault, seeing Atti punch the victim twice on the head, causing him to fall unconscious. Despite the victim being defenseless, Atti continued to kick and punch him until the officers intervened and provided first aid before the victim was taken to the hospital.
Attending Airdrie Sheriff Court, it was noted by Kevin Morrow, the prosecutor, that the attack seemed entirely unprovoked. Fortunately, the victim only sustained a cut to his eyebrow, with no significant neurological damage. Despite having no prior convictions, Atti was deemed by Sheriff Derek Livingston to have committed a horrific attack, leading to his non-custodial sentence.
