A local councillor in Ravenscraig has raised concerns over damaged crash barriers along New Craig Road. The councillor, Nathan Wilson, highlighted that sections of the crash barriers have been hit by drivers, leading to significant damage that has weakened the protection they provide to pedestrians in the event of further collisions. The damaged crash barriers are located on the approach to the A723 roundabout from Ravenscraig, where motorists can turn left onto Merry Street, drive straight through, or go right to Carfin.
Councillor Wilson has contacted the local authority’s roads service to request that the weakened barriers be either repaired or replaced. He expressed worries that the damage indicates some motorists are not adhering to speed limits, particularly at the roundabouts in the area. Wilson pointed out that a section of the crash barriers near the A723 roundabout is almost lying on the ground, suggesting it was hit with significant force. Other parts of New Craig Road, including those approaching residential areas, have also sustained damage.
Wilson emphasised the importance of arranging remedial works for the weakened crash barriers near the A723 roundabout and ensuring that stronger structures are in place to better protect pedestrians from speeding vehicles. The councillor’s actions aim to improve road safety and prevent potential accidents in the future.
