NHS Musculoskeletal Physio Team holds appointment days at Wishaw Sports Centre
The NHS Lanarkshire’s Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy Team recently organised two innovative Community Appointment Days (CADs) at the Wishaw Sports Centre. These events aimed to provide support to patients on the MSK Physiotherapy waiting list to help them manage their own conditions effectively. A total of 460 people attended these appointment days, where they had the opportunity to engage with the staff, discuss their conditions, and receive assessments, diagnosis, rehabilitation, or advice.
During the event, attendees could also explore information stalls set up by 14 partner organisations, including leisure, pharmacy, podiatry, and Community Link Workers. Brian Slattery, Acting Physiotherapy Musculoskeletal Strategy Lead at NHS Lanarkshire, expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback received from patients. He noted that these Community Appointment Days have been well-received by patients, with a total of 1281 people benefiting from them so far.
Patients participated in ‘What Matters Most to You’ conversations, followed by appropriate assessments, rehabilitation, advice, or a combination of services. They were then directed to the partners’ zone for additional support or guidance. Patients could choose to be discharged from the service with the option of self-referring back at any time, receive information for making another appointment if needed, or schedule a follow-up appointment.
One service user, Susan Sutherland, shared her positive experience, highlighting the efficiency of the appointment process and the quality of care received. She commended the event for providing timely and effective treatment to a large number of patients. The feedback gathered from these events will be instrumental in shaping future physiotherapy CADs planned for other areas in Lanarkshire in the upcoming months.
