A distressed baby was discovered with cocaine in his system, with traces of the drug also found on two dummies, in a horrifying case that shocked authorities. The four-week-old infant was urgently taken to a hospital after falling ill at a residence in Glasgow’s Pollokshaws on May 22, 2023, under the care of Yasmin Mazur, 27, and Connor McBride, 29, the two responsible for the baby at the time. An investigation led to the finding of cocaine residue on dummies kept in the kitchen and living room of the property.
Yasmin Mazur and Connor McBride have both entered guilty pleas at Glasgow Sheriff Court for causing harm to the baby’s health due to their actions. In addition, McBride has admitted to possessing cocaine himself. The court proceedings revealed that Mazur noticed the baby’s deteriorating condition at 4.30am, prompting a call for emergency medical assistance. Following tests at the hospital, a urine sample provided by the baby tested positive for cocaine, leading to a police search of the property.
Danielle McGuinness, the prosecutor, informed the court that swabs taken from various surfaces in the property indicated traces of cocaine, with the dummies also containing an unspecified amount of the drug. Both Mazur and McBride were taken into custody and declined to comment during interviews with the authorities. Fortunately, it was determined that the baby did not suffer any long-term harm as a result of the incident.
During the court session, it was revealed that Mazur lost her job due to the uncertainty surrounding the case, while McBride is pursuing studies to become a drug counsellor. Sentencing for the pair has been postponed pending further investigations, with Sheriff Tony Kelly warning them of the seriousness of their actions and the potential for imprisonment.
