A Scottish fisherman was airlifted to the hospital after being washed off rocks into the sea while fishing. The Montrose RNLI responded to the incident on Wednesday, November 20, following a report from a local man about the 58-year-old fisherman falling into the sea near Usan, close to Lunan Bay. Upon reaching the scene, the RNLI crew found the man had managed to make it back onto the rocks, where the police and local coastguard had also arrived to assist in the rescue.
The man, who was suspected to have a broken ankle, was carefully placed on a stretcher and transported to an awaiting Air Ambulance. He was then airlifted to the hospital for further treatment. The challenging terrain of the rocks required assistance from both the RNLI crew and emergency services to safely extract the casualty and transfer him to the Air Ambulance. Both lifeboats involved in the rescue operation were subsequently stood down and prepared for future service.
A spokesperson for Montrose RNLI provided details of the rescue effort, which involved a coordinated response from HM Coastguard, Scottish Ambulance, Air Ambulance, and Police Scotland. The rapid deployment of resources ensured the fisherman received prompt medical attention and evacuation to the hospital. As of now, no further updates on the fisherman’s condition have been released.
