Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce supporters dig deep to boost anti-poverty group coffers

Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce supporters have come together to make a significant contribution towards boosting the funds of an anti-poverty group. The donations were made to Christians Against Poverty’s (CAP) Ayr and Irvine centres, which provide free debt advice to local residents. The annual report by CAP highlighted a concerning trend of Scottish households facing a debt crisis, with clients owing an average of over £10,500 and struggling with multiple debts, including priority arrears like Council Tax and rent payments.

The generosity of the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce members and their associates resulted in a substantial donation of £2500 for CAP. Alan McLaren, the Community Links Coordinator for Christians Against Poverty, expressed gratitude for the support received from the Chamber. He emphasised the importance of raising awareness about the free debt advice services available to those in need in Ayrshire, acknowledging the Chamber’s valuable assistance in this regard.

Claire Baird, the Chief Executive of Ayrshire Chamber, underlined the Chamber’s commitment to supporting the local community by contributing to the vital work of Christians Against Poverty. She expressed pride in the £2,500 donation made to support the charity’s efforts in providing life-changing support and debt advice to residents facing financial challenges. The success of the donation was attributed to the generosity of guests at the 2024 Ayrshire Business Awards dinner.

The partnership between Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and Christians Against Poverty demonstrates the positive impact that community support and collaborative efforts can have in addressing pressing social issues like poverty and debt. By joining forces and rallying support from local businesses and individuals, meaningful contributions can be made towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for those in need.

In conclusion, the story of Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce supporters coming together to support Christians Against Poverty serves as a testament to the power of community solidarity in tackling societal challenges. The proactive involvement of businesses and individuals in making a difference highlights the importance of collective action in driving positive change and providing much-needed assistance to those facing financial hardships.
