Ayrshire swimmers make a splash in British Championship event in Crawley
Three talented swimmers from Ayrshire showcased their skills during the British Down Syndrome Swimming Championships 2024 held in Crawley. Cerys McCrindle, 22, from Ayr, Laura Logan, 30, from Coylton, and Alan Jardine, 37, from Kilmarnock, represented the South Ayrshire Para Swim Squad at the event. Cerys stood out with an outstanding performance, participating in seven races over the weekend and clinching an impressive six medals. Her victories included two British Championship Titles in the 100m butterfly and 400m freestyle, where she even set a new British Record in the 400m freestyle event. Cerys’ mother, Karen, expressed her pride, stating, “Cerys achieved this after already gaining a silver medal in the 800m freestyle in the morning. And she set some new Personal Best times too!”
Laura also had a successful outing, securing a bronze medal in her favorite event, the 200m butterfly, along with claiming six Masters age group medals. Additionally, Alan, competing as a Master 2 swimmer, achieved several Personal Best times and earned five age-group medals. The trio were supported by their dedicated coaches, Mike Boles and Betty Logan.
The Ayrshire swimmers’ remarkable performances at the championship not only brought home medals but also set new personal milestones, showcasing their talent and dedication to the sport.
