A Scottish mother has shared her harrowing experience after taking a £120 weight loss injection in hopes of slimming down for a family holiday, only to end up in excruciating pain and hospitalised. Nicole Wright, 31, purchased the injection at the end of August with the intention of shedding a few pounds before her trip to Turkey with her two daughters. However, after administering the injection on September 1, she started to vomit and couldn’t even keep water down. Her condition deteriorated over the week, leading to her vomiting “fresh” blood, which left her fearing for her life.
After two visits to A&E for fluids and medication, Nicole was rushed back to the hospital in severe pain. Doctors managed to stabilise her and flush out the weight loss medication from her system. Now in recovery, Nicole has sworn off using such injections again, feeling embarrassed and ashamed for risking her health in the name of weight loss. She is urging others to only use weight loss injections prescribed by healthcare professionals and to avoid salon-sold alternatives, which may not be safe.
Police Scotland confirmed they investigated the incident, but no further action will be taken at this time. Nicole, from North Ayrshire, shared her ordeal, emphasising the intensity of the pain she experienced, describing it as worse than childbirth. She believes she may have unknowingly used a fake product and stressed the dangers of opting for ‘skinny jabs’ from beauty salons instead of medical professionals.
